My work is about making visuals that communicate feeling. While I was initially trained as an expressionist landscape painter, my paintings now explore color theory, contrasting compositions, and different forms of symbolism. I often focus in a specific visual element (eggs for example) and then explore this through an iterative process using aesthetic themes of bold abstraction, dramatic shifts in light and proportion and moody emotionality in order to demonstrate how one subject can be many things and the same all at once. I like to think of this as a form of story telling, demonstrating that as days, scenes, or artworks move forward they can evolve and remain similar if not the same. Although predominately an oil painter, I have worked in different mediums including caste molding, photography, traditional animation, hand thrown ceramics, and wood working. The goal of my work is an ongoing search for ways to create and recognize experience and meaning.
